"Rev" Melvin Turner
"The
Rev" Melvin Turner is KBZE's senior employee, and a partner in kbzegospel.com.
A native of Morgan City, and a member of Mt. Pilgrim
Baptist Church all his life, where he is also an Associate Minister,
"The Rev," is a black history maker.
His words "Good Morning to ya" where heard parishwide
in 1993, when he helped sign KBZE 105.9FM on the air, as the first ever
FM Urban radio station situated between New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and
Lafayette.
He has two favorite books of the Bible -- Psalms and
The Gospel of Matthew. "Both teach you so much," the Rev. says.
His favorite Biblical Character is Job, "because he
was faithful and didn't give up."
"The Rev" started in radio more than 15 years ago at
KMRC 1430AM in Morgan City, La. with the "Lone Star" Gospel Hour.
An entrepeneur in both the Gospel and Secular Worlds,
"The Rev" has produced four gospel concerts in the Morgan City area:
Bobby Jones and The Nashville Super Choir’s Fellowship Choir, Sister
Shirley Caesar, Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes with the
Five Blind Boys of Alabama, and the Mississippi Mass Choir.
"The Rev" currently resides in Morgan City with his
wife Judy, and daughter Koshia.
